The late Senator Paul Simon hosting a dinner with Illinois Bar Association Treasurer Stephen M. Komie.

Stephen M. Komie - Principal.

Position: Founder
Born: Chicago, Illinois, 1949

Bar admission: 1976,  Illinois, U. S. Supreme Court, U. S. Court of Appeals, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Circuits, U. S. District Court, Central, Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana, U. S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, U. S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri, U. S. Tax Court and Illinois Supreme Court.

Brian E. King -

Position: Associate
Born: Chicago, Illinois, 1970

Bar admission: Admitted in 1996 to the Illinois, U. S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, U. S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois and U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.

Mr. King is an experienced and noted appellate and civil litigator in both State and Federal Courts.  Most notable of his accomplishments are his victories against the government.  In United States v. 506,641.00 in United States Currency, he prepared a successful brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and vindicated a local small business owner.  He appealed an unlawful seizure and forfeiture of over a half a million dollars from a flour barrel at local and established Chicago Pizzeria.  Similarly, in the recent case of the United States vs. $100,120.00 in United States Currency, Mr. King successfully authored the brief before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  The seizure from the client’s briefcase at the train station violated the rightful owner’s constitutional right to be free from unlawful searches and seizures.  Consequently, the District Court suppressed the currency as evidence and terminated the case.   The most recent victory is the successful appeal in People of the State of Illinois vs. Cox.  In Cox,  despite the Illinois Supreme Court’s striking of a penal statute as unconstitutional, local authorities charged and convicted the client with the unconstitutional statute.  Mr. King successfully argued to the Appellate Court of Illinois, the conviction must be reversed as the statute had been voided by the Illinois Supreme Court.
In addition to being a veteran of the bar, Mr. King has extensive experience in real estate as well as a Master’s degree in the Science of Accounting.  Mr. King’s additional qualifications allow him to assist and represent the more sophisticated financial and tax needs of clients involved in complex civil litigation.  Some of Mr. King’s current clients include a nationally-known Chicago Real Estate Developer as well as a world-renowned global economist.
