Asset Forfeiture
There are two types of asset forfeiture proceedings.  The first is filed by prosecutors to freeze assets and forfeit them to the government.  The second is money or property arrested and seized by the police.
Increasingly, investigating authorities, are filing proceedings to freeze assets in the civil and criminal courts.  The objective being to seize the clients money and property.  Thus, depriving the client of the resources to fight back.

Not only the individual under investigation is affected, co-owners or investors risk losing their assets whilst lengthy proceedings are conducted.

Drug Cases

Drug crimes may be classified as either felonies or misdemeanors depending on the circumstances.  This classification determines the sentence which may result from the offense; sentences range from fines and counseling to life imprisonment.  Possible charges include trafficking, possession, distribution, transportation, possession for sale, cultivation and manufacturing.  Initially, drug charges may seem only minor, but they may quickly escalate into huge legal problems.  The problem is further compounded by the jurisdiction which brings the charges or makes the arrest.  For example, the federal courts have greater punishments for the same offenses charged in state court.  This area of the law is a minefield which traps the unwary client and injures clients who fail to obtain competent and experienced counsel.

At Komie and Associates, we have experience born from years of representing persons charged with drug crimes in the state and federal courts of our nation.

Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence is a broad category meant to include any offense, felony or misdemeanor, in which the listed victim is a family or household member.  In each session of the General Assembly, new offenses and stiffer penalties have been added each year.  A conviction of domestic violence is a great disability as you can no longer possess firearms and are barred for life from holding certain jobs.  The damage to a person’s reputation from the publication in the newspapers of domestic violence allegations destroys careers and can terminate public office or service.
The team of experienced courtroom litigators has vast experience at defending purported claims of domestic violence with acquittals in most cases.
